What’s the best way to store my old baby clothes to keep them from getting smelly or moldy?

So you’ve got some old baby clothing that you like to hang onto, but we all know what happens to clothes that get left in the closet. I can still smell the mothballs when I think about my grandmothers closet, yuck! Here’s how to keep that old baby clothing from becoming smelly and moldy.

First you want to make sure that your clothes are completely dry. After you store them any moisture can trap unwanted smells or cause molding and possibly color bleeding. Next, find some of those vacuum sealable bags such as Space Bags, everybody has them now, just go over to Wal-Mart and pick some up. Additionally you may want to store you sealed clothes in a cedar lined chest. I’ve been told before that cedar is a natural insect repellant.

Here are a few alternative ideas you can use for old baby clothing besides just storing them:

  • You can donate them to churches or charities, or even relative that are expecting.
  • Save the ones you like and turn them into a memory quilt. You can find companies that will make the quilt for you, but if your handy with a needle and thread you can probably make it yourself.
  • Make some cash and sell them on ebay or garage sales.
  • Use them around the house.
  • Use them to dress up your dolls.
